2 More Rivers Assembly Lawmakers Withdraw From Impeachment Moves Against Fubara

Two additional members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have withdrawn their support for the ongoing impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, further weakening the push within the legislature.

The lawmakers are Hon. Mrs. Barile Nwakoh, Deputy Minority Leader of the Assembly, and Hon. Emilia Amadi. Their decision brings the total number of legislators who have stepped back from the impeachment actions to four, out of the 26 members initially reported to have backed the move.

Speaking on the development, Hon. Mrs. Nwakoh emphasized the need for dialogue and compromise over drastic political measures. She stated that she was willing to consider a political solution rather than the outright removal of Governor Fubara, urging her colleagues to also adopt a more conciliatory approach.

“We hereby state our willingness to consider a political solution rather than the outright removal of Governor Fubara, and we call on our members to also consider this approach,” Nwakoh said.

The withdrawal of support by the two lawmakers is seen as a significant development amid heightened political tension in the state, as it suggests growing divisions within the Assembly over the impeachment effort.
