2027 Kwara North Agenda: Why Power Should Shift

By: Alhaji Mahmud Jibril, Dan Sarki Yaki Tsaragi

The political landscape of Kwara State is once again poised for a pivotal moment as the 2027 gubernatorial election approaches. For the people of Kwara North, this election represents more than just a change in leadership; it signifies a long-awaited opportunity for equitable representation and development. Since the dawn of Nigeria’s democratic era, Kwara North, one of the state’s three senatorial zones, has remained conspicuously absent from the governor’s office. This historical marginalization demands urgent redress.

A stark contrast exists between the experiences of Kwara North and its sister zones. Kwara Central has enjoyed the governorship for three terms, including that of the incumbent, Governor Abdulrahman Abdurazaq. Kwara South, too, has witnessed its fair share of leadership, with Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed serving two terms. Yet, Kwara North, despite its significant contributions to the state’s economy, continues to be overlooked.

The 2027 election presents a crucial juncture to rectify this imbalance. The people of Kwara North are not asking for special privileges; they are demanding their rightful place in the state’s leadership. They are not strangers within Kwara State; they are integral members of the community, yearning for a governor who understands and prioritizes their needs.

The consequences of this historical neglect are evident in the dilapidated state infrastructure across Kwara North. Roads, schools, and healthcare facilities have suffered from years of marginalization. The residents of Kwara North have witnessed the development brought to other zones by their respective governors, including the incumbent. They now assert their right to similar progress.

The call for power to shift to Kwara North is not rooted in regionalism or division. It is a plea for fairness, equity, and inclusive development. The people of Kwara North seek a governor who will address their specific challenges and unlock the region’s vast potential. They envision a leader who will prioritize infrastructure development, stimulate economic growth, and ensure that the benefits of progress are shared across all corners of the state.

The 2027 election is a chance to build a Kwara State that is truly united, where every zone has the opportunity to thrive. It is time for Kwara North to take its rightful place in the state’s leadership and contribute to a brighter future for all. The people of Kwara North have waited patiently; now, they rightfully demand their turn.

I wish to commend Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his unwavering support for education in Edu LGA and across Kwara State. His commitment to improving the education sector is truly commendable and will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the lives of students and the future of our state.

His initiatives have shown a clear dedication to enhancing educational infrastructure, promoting access to quality education, and empowering the next generation of leaders.

Thank you, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for your visionary leadership and commitment to education.
