Abdulrazaq Hamzat Joins Global Energy Economics Community
Abdulrazaq Hamzat, a renowned peacebuilding professional and human rights ambassador has joined the International Association of Energy Economics and National Association of Energy Economics during the prestigious 17th NAEE/IAEE Annual International Conference, held at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, under the theme, “The Energy, Economy, and Environment Nexus: Imperative for Good Governance and Sustainable Development.”
Hamzat’s membership in these globally recognized organizations follows his recent training in Energy Studies, specializing in Energy Policy and Economics at the University of Ibadan.
As an emerging thought leader in Nigeria, Hamzat is set to contribute significantly to the country’s energy discourse, focusing on the critical intersection of energy, economic sustainability, and environmental governance.
Speaking on the occasion, Hamzat expressed his commitment to leveraging his new roles within the IAEE and NAEE to advance innovative energy policies that promote sustainable development in Nigeria.
“Being part of these influential bodies will enable me to collaborate with global and local experts to address the challenges and opportunities in the energy sector, ensuring that our policies not only drive economic growth but also prioritize environmental sustainability and good governance.
Through his membership, Hamzat seeks to enhance energy policy and economic discourse, foster innovative solutions, and promote energy justice and equity.
As a peacebuilding professional and human rights ambassador, Hamzat emphasized the importance of ensuring that Nigeria’s energy development is inclusive and equitable, reflecting his broader commitment to social justice and human rights in his work.
The 17th NAEE/IAEE Annual International Conference brought together top energy experts, economists, policymakers, and industry leaders to explore solutions to the critical issues facing the energy sector, particularly in relation to governance and sustainable development.
NAEE President, Dr Hassan Mahmud while speaking in Abuja at the 17th Annual International Conference of the NAEE, in collaboration with the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) said that despite the landmark passage of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, the country had not realised its full potential in the oil and gas sector.
Mahmud argued that there was evidence that weak institutions and poor governance had led to the inability of countries to transform their abundant human capital and natural resources endowment to positive economic and social outcome.
Similarly, Chairman/CEO, Green Energy International Limited Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe, said that many countries, especially in Africa and Asia, struggle to grow their economies, provide hope for their people, and break energy and economic poverty limitations.
Nevertheless, all around them, he said, the consequences of the advanced economies’ choices in energy use continue to be evident in global warming and the effects of climate change that have defied geographical locations.
He argued that the interconnectedness between energy systems, economic growth, and environmental sustainability had become increasingly evident.
