Bayelsa 2023: INEC Removes Sylva’s From Candidates List

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released an amended list of candidates for the upcoming Bayelsa State election.

The revised list, made public on Tuesday via INEC’s official website, notably excludes the names of Timipre Marlin Sylva, and his running mate, Joshua Maciver, both representing the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The amendment was officially signed by INEC’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, who clarified that this action was taken in strict adherence to court orders related to the candidate lists, which had been served to the commission.

“By virtue of the provision of Section 287 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the Commission is bound to enforce the orders of court on nomination of candidates by political parties in the state,” explained Ms. Oriaran-Anthony.

She further stated, “The Amended list of candidates in respect of the 2023 Bayelsa State governorship election is hereby amended pursuant to the orders of court served on the commission.”

This development has raised significant questions and garnered widespread attention, as political dynamics in Bayelsa State are expected to be reshaped in light of these revisions.
