Court Remands Woman With Five-Month-Old Baby For Fraud

A Magistrate court sitting in Ile Ife on Wednesday remanded Mrs. Uche Portia in prison with her five-month-old baby for charges bordering on fraud and stealing.

Portia, 29, a business woman pleaded ‘not guilty’and her lawyer, Mr. Ben Adiereje, urged the court to grant bail on liberal terms, saying she will not jump bail.

The magistrate, Mrs. Dorcas Ajiboye, granted the accused N200,000 bail, with one surety in like sum.

The conditions also included that surety must swear to an affidavit of means and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction. In addition, the surety must produce three-year tax clearance and provide two recent passport photographs.

Portia will remain in prison pending when she will meet her bail conditions.

The case has been adjourned until September 1 for hearing.
