ICAN Moves To Arrest Quacks On Plateau State

The Chairman Institute of chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Jos, Plateau State Chapter Mr Julius Dooiyor said the Association has taken drastic action toward arresting quacks who claims to be Accountants in the State.

According him said there has been an abuse of the accounting Profession by quacks in the country which call for serious action to stop them.

The ICAN chairman stated this on Tuesday in Jos during a one day Sensitization Seminar and an awareness campaign organised for 20 Secondary Schools students and Students of the Accounting Department University of Jos as well as Plateau State Polytechnic Accounting Students held at Sarau Event Centre Jos.

The Seminar with the theme, “Catch them young” was aimed at creating awareness to the students on the importance of ICAN as well as educating them on the right step to be a chartered accountant in the Country.

He disclosed that ICAN is collaborating with law enforcement agency to ensure the arrests of quacks who deceived and parade themselves in the society as qualified Chartered Accountants.

He stated that the only way to become a chartered accountant in Nigeria is through the institute of chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

He added that the Association is putting efforts to catch them young in the accounting field in the country.

“The aimed of the awareness in Plateau State is to educate young once from the grassroots to love the accounting Profession”.

Representative of the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Secondary Education in Plateau State Mr Timkat Peter Accountant 1, Ministry of Education commended the effort ICAN in Plateau State for organising the Seminar.

He also calls on other Profession in State to imbibe the same step towards educating students from Secondary schools.

He described Accounting Profession as a distinct body of knowledge and skills with a specified standard of attainment in the skills.
