IEDPU United States Branch Launches Free Medical Outreach in Ilorin
The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) United States of America branch has launched free medical outreach in collaboration with the National Council of Nigerian Muslim Organizations (NCNMO).
Speaking during the media briefing held at the IEDPU Headquarters, the President of United States Branch, Lanre Abaya said the outreach will cover 100 beneficiaries for eye surgeries and 100 individuals will undergo other surgical procedures.
Abaya said the program is open to the general public irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or place of origin. “This programme is not restricted to indigenes of Ilorin alone. Anyone who can access the venue is welcome to benefit from the services. Whether you are a Christian, Muslim, or a practitioner of traditional religion, the outreach is for all,” he said.
According to him, the event marked the formal commencement of the medical outreach programme jointly organized by IEDPUUSA and the National Council of Nigerian Muslim Organizations (NCNMO), aimed at providing free healthcare services and medical interventions to residents of the Ilorin Emirate and beyond.
He commended its National Executive Council for their prompt support and cooperation in ensuring the successful planning of the mission.
His words: “The IEDPU has always been guided by the principles of unity, welfare, and progress. There is no greater demonstration of community service than protecting the health of the people.”
The leadership described the initiative as a testament to the enduring bond between the Ilorin Emirate and its sons and daughters in the diaspora, who continue to give back to their homeland despite living abroad.
Explaining the motivation behind the initiative, Abaya noted that IEDPUUSA members remained connected to their roots and conscious of the healthcare challenges facing many people back home.
He added that reports of people losing their lives to treatable illnesses inspired the organization to embark on the medical mission.
They also acknowledged the support of the Kwara State Ministry of Health and appealed to government at all levels to continue investing in quality healthcare delivery.
Providing details of the exercise, Alhaji Abubakar disclosed that 200 people had been screened for various medical procedures.
Addressing concerns regarding post-surgery care and possible complications, Chairman of the Ilorin Emirate Doctors Association, Dr. Jimoh, assured beneficiaries that adequate medical arrangements have been made to handle any situation that may arise.
He explained that every surgical procedure carries some level of risk, whether minor or major, but stressed that experienced professionals and appropriate facilities are on ground to provide the necessary care and follow-up treatment where required.
