IREE PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION (IPA) CONDEMNS VIOLENCE, VINDICATES AREE.

The Global Executive Council of Iree Progressive Association (IPA) being the umbrella body of all Iree community associations worldwide condemned the series of security disturbances in Iree before, during and after the *Osun State Governorship Election held on August 15, 2026

IPA in a statement issued on Thursday implored Police to deploy more personnel to the town.

The statement reads

After a thorough review of pre-election peace engineering organized by IPA including several town hall meetings to which all political parties were invited, and which all except one party attended, witnessed by national institutions and security agencies: NPF, DSS, INEC, NCDC; we here state as follows:

1. Based on several visual pieces of evidence available to us, we condemn every form of crisis in the strongest terms. Violence is wicked and barbaric and has no place in our culture.

2. Armed Intimidation:

Before, during and after the election, suspected thugs were sighted at different locations in Iree town allegedly shooting sporadically to instill fear in residents. On election day, some individuals were reportedly apprehended with guns and other ammunition and handed over to the police.

3. Attack on the Aree’s Personal Residence:

It is noteworthy and deeply disturbing that *the residence of His Royal Majesty, Oba Muritala Omotayo Oyelakin Oyekun III was attacked by unknown gunmen on the eve of the election, with several gunshots recorded at the entrance of Kabiyesi’s personal residence in what appears to be an attempt to intimidate the throne ahead of the election.

We state categorically that His Royal Majesty has remained an ambassador of peace and a father to all Iree indigenes irrespective of political or religious affiliation. He has no political affiliation with any party. Despite efforts to brew crisis in Iree, our Kabiyesi has consistently preached peace, harmony and unity

Our Call:

To leaders of all political parties in IREE, especially APC and ACCORD .
We urge you to manage this moment with humility magnanimity. Power is transient. No champion reigns forever, but brotherhood remains forever.
Always remember that IREE belongs to all of us. Do not allow politics to destroy our kinship.
Today’s opponent could become tomorrow’s ally .

We implore all writers and commentators circulating information about Iree to properly verify and balance their fats before publishing. It is injurious spread narratives that can further inflame tension.

We urgently call on the Nigeria Police, DSS, and NSCDC to deploy more personnel Iree with a view to maintaining law and order while also protecting lives and property.

Iree Progressive Association sues for peace. Our community is known for hospitality and unity. We shall remain so without compromise.

One love must keep us together.
