Kwara PDP Engages British High Commissioner, Raises Alarm on Intimidation, Insecurity
The Kwara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over intimidation, harassment and unlawful arrest of supporters by the ruling party – All Progressives Congress.
Kwara PDP Chairman, Hon. Issa Bawa disclosed this on Monday while hosting the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Gill Lever at the State Party Secretariat, Ilorin.
He described the visit as significant and timely, particularly in promoting democratic governance, institutional integrity, and the rule of law.
Bawa said the PDP in Kwara State remains committed to strengthening democracy and ensure governance truly reflects the will and welfare of the people.
His words: “While we remain committed to constructive engagement and peaceful democratic processes, it is important to draw your attention to some of the challenges confronting our state and the opposition politics in Kwara State.
“In 2019, the PDP handed over Kwara State as one of the most peaceful and secure states in Nigeria , a state where even residents of troubled states found refuge. Unfortunately, today, under the administration of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq-led APC government, the state has deteriorated into a flashpoint of terrorism, banditry, and violent crimes, with little or no commensurate response from the government.”
Kwara PDP Chairman hinted that more than 30 traditional rulers have flee their domains due to persistent attacks and over 600 lives were lost to banditry.
Bawa, a former Federal Lawmaker lamented that insecurity situation is escalating despite ₦4 billion budgeted for security in 2026.
Speaking on political intolerance in the state, he said PDP members are facing persistent harassment, including repeated police invitations and politically motivated legal actions.
According to him, the attempt to forcefully link PDP leader, Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki to Offa robbery matter to create negative public perception ahead of the 2027 elections. We find no logical basis for associating a respected two-term Governor and former Senate President with such an low dirty incident.
He hinted that the PDP will present credible candidates with capacity to deliver dividends of democracy.
Bawa however expressed confidence in the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in conducting credible polls
