Kwara Speaker Rejoices Over Federal Science and Technical Education Gwanara Establishment

The Speaker Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu has praised the Federal Government’s huge investment in education, describing it as a step in the right direction.

Danladi-Salihu made this known at the official handing over of the Federal Science and Technical College; FSTC Gwanara by the State Government to the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman in Gwanara.

According to the Speaker, the official handing over of the school was historically significant and another success story of the huge investment the state government is making in the education sector.

“Today is historical, it is a dream come true as we are witnessing the birthing of the first-ever federal institution in Gwanara, Baruten Local Government, and Kwara North as a whole. It is instructive to note that this is the first Federal Science and Technical College in the state, this is a breakthrough as our children from across the state would now have opportunities to learn specialized education in science and technical fields and contribute to nation-building”, Rt. Hon. Engr. Danladi-Salihu said at the program.

“In this contemporary world, science and technical education hold the key to the present and future, the significance of this school can therefore not be overemphasized. We as a people of Kwarans are thus grateful to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for their commitment to this project, we are equally grateful to our amiable Governor and Chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum, His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON for his superlative performance, especially for blazing the trail in the education sector, we know that the turn around in all sectors of governance in the last five years in the state has been unprecedented”

Rt. Hon. Engr. Danladi-Salihu while also thanking the host community especially the traditional rulers and other stakeholders for their accommodation and cooperation charged them to take ownership of the school by protecting it to make sure it serves the intended purpose for the people of the state.

“I want to say categorically that the FSTC Gwanara is not for Gwanara or Baruten or Kwara North alone, indeed it is for the entire people of Kwara State therefore, we must all take ownership of the school and protect it to make sure that it serves the purpose of educating our children”, the Speaker concluded.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq who was ably represented at the event by the state Commissioner for Education, Hajia Saadat Modibbo-Kawu also commended the Federal Government and pledged the continuous support of the state government to the new Federal Science and Technical College Gwanara.

Minister of Education, Professor Mamman who was also represented by a Deputy Director in the Ministry, Dr. Mrs Stella Uhurgbe Uloma noted that the world is revolving around scientific and technological knowledge and vocational skills for national development and charged the state government to continue its positive collaboration with the federal ministry of education in the actualization of the federal government’s desire to transform education in the country.

Dr. Uloma appreciated the cooperation of the state government and other key stakeholders which made the school to be birthed successful.

The handing-over ceremony was attended by several key stakeholders in the education sector among them were the Deputy Leader, Kwara State House of Assembly; Hon. Madinat Abdulraheem, Chairman of House Committee on Education; Hon. Mohammed Baba Salihu, Chairman House Committee on House Service; Hon. Musa Abdulkareem, Chairman Ethics and Privileges; Hon. AGF Salau among others.

The event was also attended by the Local Government officials, Emir of Gwanara; Dr. Abdullah Idris, Emir of Okuta; Alhaji Abubakar Idris Serobetete, Emir of Ilesha-Baruba; Professor Halidu Abubakar and other traditional and community leaders.
