Kwara Youngest APC Assembly candidate, Rukayat Shittu Attends Leadership Conference in Lagos
25 year-old, APC House of Assembly candidate for the Owode Onire constituency, Rukayat Shittu participated in four days program being organized by the Women In Politics Forum (WIPF) to sensitize female candidates across political parties in Nigeria.
The program themed; Preparing Female Candidate to Run Successful Campaigns and Win Polls had in attendance representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), National Democratic Institute (NDI), USAID, UKAID, and female candidates in Nigeria.
The convener of WIPF, Barrister Ekere while taking the participants through the course of the engagement, said is to strengthen women’s representation in public office in Nigeria, particularly women parliamentarians.
She stated that, the discussion was aimed at advancing women’s political participation, delving into how women can build and run effective election campaigns, and sensitizing on the new Electoral law.
While sharing ideas with others presents at the seminar, Rukayat said communication is one of the paramount strategies when campaigning.
She noted that, communication is an art of defining oneself and priorities proactively and positively, stating that it will help people to understand who you are, what you stand for, and why/how you are different from your opponents.
The participants were taught several campaign strategies, voter education, legal provisions for pre and post-election periods, networking, and many more.
