Lagos APC: Integrity at stake as the world awaits Obasa’s resignation
The integrity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State and its leader is currently at stake the world awaits the resignation of Hon Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker.
Recall that Lagos APC leadership, Governance Advisory Council and reconciliation committee co-chair by Chief Bisi Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba resolved leadership crisis rocking Lagos State House of Assembly following the removal of Obasa as Speaker by 37 members on January 13, 2025.
Our Correspondent privy to final resolution on Sunday said the member representing Agege Constituency 1, Obasa is expected to resign latest by Wednesday March 5, 2025 to pave way for emergence of new Speaker from Lagos West Senatorial District.
This tripartite agreement has been confirmed by various stakeholders and reported in national dailies on Monday.
One of the GAC members in Guardian Newspaper on Wednesday said there was no reason for jubilation yet, and not until the tripartite agreement Akande and Osoba discussed with the GAC is implemented.
According to him: “The tripartite solution is that Meranda must resign and Obasa would be giving a soft landing by being reinstated and that he (Obasa) too would resign latest today (Wednesday) while another person from Lagos West would step in as the Speaker. Any other arrangement besides this is null and void and must not be celebrated.”
Some members of Lagos State House of Assembly, APC members and Lagosians are eagerly waiting for the resignation of Obasa inline with resolution reached on Sunday.
Political watchers opine that partial resolution of the agreement may lead to another crisis in Lagos Assembly and the ruling party ahead of 2027 general elections.
They reiterated that the Lagos Lawmakers already fulfill their part with Meranda’s resignation and reinstatement of Obasa during Monday plenary. Hence, the mediators should ensure Obasa resign in order not to sign wrong signal to party faithful.
“The issue of resignation is the final part resolution. Baba Bisi Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba as well as GAC members need to protect their names and integrity by enforcing the agreement. Obasa MUST RESIGN! They cannot change the deal now.” A source told our reporter
