Lagos to Host Maiden South-West Games

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development as the state prepares to host the maiden edition of the South-West Games from March 26 to 28.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the South-West Games 2025 Committee at the Lagos House, Marina, on Friday, Sanwo-Olu assured organizers of adequate security and modern sporting facilities.

He described the event as an opportunity to foster youth engagement, social inclusion, and regional unity.

“The South-West Games will enhance social cohesion, promote healthy competition, and create opportunities for young people to develop their talents,” he said.

The competition will bring together athletes from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti states to compete in various sporting events at venues including Teslim Balogun Stadium, Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Rowe Park, and Yaba College of Education.

President of the South-West Games 2025 Committee, Dr. Olanrewaju Alfred, commended Sanwo-Olu’s leadership and support for sports infrastructure in Lagos.

He described the tournament as a platform for youth empowerment and talent discovery.

Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, also emphasized the significance of the Games in identifying and nurturing young athletes.

The South-West Games is expected to boost regional sports collaboration and provide a platform for emerging talents across the six states.
