The Governing Boards of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA), Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), and Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) were inaugurated on Thursday at the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), Abuja.

The event brought together senior government officials and key organised private sector stakeholders. The National President of NACCIMA, Engr. (Dr.) Jani Ibrahim was formally inaugurated as a member of the OGFZA Governing Board, reinforcing private sector participation in national economic governance.

Alhaji Uba Mijinyawa will serve as NACCIMA’s representative on the NEPZA Governing Board, while Chief Humphrey Ngonadi represents NACCIMA on the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) Governing Board. These appointments further affirm the organised private sector’s strategic role in advancing industrial development, trade facilitation, and inclusive economic growth in Nigeria.

Delivering the welcome address at the inauguration, the Permanent Secretary of FMITI, Amb. Nura Abba Nimi, highlighted the importance of strong institutional leadership. The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, MFR, underscored the strategic role of Free Zones in driving industrialisation, expanding exports, and attracting investment, urging Board members to align their oversight responsibilities with national development priorities.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, emphasised the need for strong governance, collaboration, and performance-driven leadership to ensure Free Zones deliver tangible economic impact and inclusive industrial growth.

The Minister thereafter formally inaugurated the Boards, with Engr. (Dr.) Jani Ibrahim sworn in alongside other members.

NACCIMA’s representation across these key national institutions underscores the critical importance of public–private sector collaboration in policy formulation and implementation.
