Mopelola Takes Consultation To Ilorin West, Promises Inclusive and Responsive Representation
What began as a routine visit quickly transformed into a spontaneous political rally on Monday in Alanamu, Ilorin West, as Hon. Mopelola AbdulMalik Bashir (Eleniyan) made an unannounced appearance that drew an electrifying response from residents.
Eyewitnesses say the atmosphere shifted within minutes of her arrival, as youths, market women, and community leaders surged out in large numbers, chanting “Eleniyan” and openly declaring support for the House of Representatives aspirant.
The dramatic turnout effectively turned the visit into a full blown rally, with many describing it as a clear sign of growing grassroots acceptance of Mopelola’s candidacy for the Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency seat.
Mopelola, who recently obtained her Expression of Interest and Nomination Form under the All Progressives Congress (APC), used the moment to engage directly with residents, emphasizing her commitment to inclusive leadership, youth empowerment, and responsive representation.
Her connection with the crowd appeared organic, as supporters repeatedly echoed slogans of Eleniyan in solidarity, with some openly describing her as “our candidate,” signaling what political observers interpret as early emotional ownership of her ambition by the Alanamu community.
A former Commissioner for Women Affairs and former Commissioner for Water Resources in Kwara State under the administration of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Mopelola has built a strong profile around grassroots mobilisation and civic advocacy.
As Gender Coordinator of Kwara Must Change, she has also been at the forefront of campaigns for gender equity and youth inclusion in governance.
The Alanamu reception, analysts say, may mark a turning point in the unfolding political contest, as it reflects not just attendance, but enthusiasm, an indicator often linked to deeper voter alignment.
While the race for the Ilorin West/Asa seat remains at an early stage, such spontaneous mobilisations are already reshaping the political narrative, with Mopelola’s campaign gaining visible traction across key communities.
As more engagements are expected in the coming weeks, the constituency is fast evolving into one of the most politically active zones in Kwara State, with grassroots sentiment likely to play a decisive role in the journey toward the 2027 elections.
