Urgent Appeal for Water, Electricity, and Road Infrastructure in Lafiagi
The residents of Lafiagi, a community in Kwara State, have issued an urgent appeal to the State Governor, His Excellency Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to address critical challenges plaguing their daily lives.
In a heartfelt letter dated January 29, 2025, the community highlighted three pressing issues: the lack of clean water, unstable electricity supply, and the deplorable state of road infrastructure.
The letter, signed by Manzuma Aliyu Koguna on behalf of the people of Lafiagi, paints a grim picture of the hardships faced by residents. Women and children, in particular, bear the brunt of the water crisis, as they are forced to wake up at midnight in search of water due to the absence of a functional waterworks system. The community is pleading with the state government to prioritize the restoration of a reliable water supply to alleviate their suffering.
Electricity supply in Lafiagi has also been a source of frustration for residents and businesses alike. The community’s power supply was reportedly downgraded, leading to frequent outages and disruptions. The letter calls on Governor AbdulRazaq to engage the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to restore Lafiagi’s electricity to the 33kV line, which would ensure a stable power supply and boost economic activities in the area.
In addition to these challenges, the poor condition of Lafiagi’s access roads has made transportation a daily struggle for commuters, traders, and farmers.
The Residents emphasized that the deplorable state of the roads is not only hindering movement but also stifling economic growth and development in the community.
They therefore urged the state government to rehabilitate these roads to improve connectivity and ease the burden on those who rely on them for their livelihoods.
Lafiagi Residents however expressed their confidence in Governor AbdulRazaq’s leadership and a hopeful plea for swift action. “The people of Lafiagi trust in your leadership and eagerly look forward to your urgent response to these pressing concerns,” the letter reads.
As the community awaits a response from the state government, the appeal underscores the urgent need for intervention in basic infrastructure and public utilities. The resolution of these issues would not only improve the quality of life for Lafiagi residents but also foster economic growth and development in the region.
Governor AbdulRazaq’s administration has yet to issue an official statement regarding the appeal. However, the people of Lafiagi remain hopeful that their cries for help will not go unheard.
