2027: Review Your Political Alignment Approach, Kwarans Urge KMC

…Hails Accuracy of Group’s Political Predictions

Kwara Must Change (KMC) is a pro democracy group with about a decade of consistent advocacy geared towards deepening democratic governance, promoting good governance, advocating for inclusive and allround development in Kwara State.

KMC gained prominence around 2017 when they push for recall of the then Senate President and Senator representing Kwara Central, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki. Although, their attempt to recall Saraki failed but their voice resonate with Kwarans as well as other Nigerians.

The group raised their momentum in build to 2019 general elections with advocacy in alignment with OTOGE revolution. Their advocacy ranging from media activities via press releases, media appearance on Radio/TV to sensitise the populace; stakeholders’ engagement, Community impact and others. The Convener of the group, Abdulrazaq Hamzat in different fora maintained that Kwara Must Change main motive is to bring desired change and development to Kwara State.

As we approach 2027 general elections, Kwarans are beaming their searchlight on group to see if the group will be relevant in the next dispensation. Some residents feel the group have lowered their advocacy in order to align with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq administration while others see the group as essential in the state political join.

To this end, our crew interacted with Kwarans drawn from three Senatorial districts to hear their views on activities of Kwara Must Change since inception.

Expectedly Kwarans expressed diverse views on the organisation but they clearly agree that Kwara Must Change has contributed to political reawakening in the state of harmony.

Some of the respondents applauded the leading pro-democracy group for their advocacy and contributions geared towards deepening democratic governance in the state.

In his remarks, the Council Secretary of Moro local government, Comrade Muhammad Nurudeen said the group has contributed their quota to the political space of the state.

According to him, every organisation has its aims and objectives-l believe Kwara Must Change is adding value through their advocacy via media activities and stakeholders engagement prior to 2019 elections and beyond.

While speaking on accuracy of KMC election predictions, Muhammad acknowledged accuracy of their predictions in 2019 and 2023 general elections.

He however cautioned KMC to expand their scope by using empirical approach in carrying research that would be accurate ahead of 2027 general elections.

A Social Commentator, Mallam Bolaji Aladie described Kwara Must Change as a group with impact in the society but urged them not to be partisan.

Aladie observed that the group were critical of the last administration in Kwara by antagonising their policies and programmes.

According to him, Kwara Must Change antagonise the last administration but the group is now running like pro-government in their engagements. It’s necessary for them to improve in their mode of oprandi.

On legislative report, he allegedly the group only expressed bias opinion to achieve a particular agenda. Kwara Must Change is yet to produce another legislative report after first edition, what has changed?, the Ilorin Media expert queried.

A Lecturer in Kwara State Polytechnic who craved anonymity said the group is a partisan organisation driving political agenda. The Academic queried why KMC has been silent on critical issues under present administration in the state.

Tajudeen Sulaiman aligned with the view of the Kwara State Polytechnic Lecturer by describing Kwara Must Change as a group pushing political interest.

Majority of respondents implored Kwara Must Change to review their alignment posture in order to remain relevant in the political space beyond 2027.
