The Kwara State chapter of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) on Saturday empowered 100 widows drawn from 16 local government areas of the state.
Kwara YOWICAN Chairman, Evangelist Stephen Awoyale while speaking on the empowerment programme during fourth edition of Youth Convention tagged ANAGKAZO held at C & S Church Murtala, Ilorin appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Senator Sadiq Umar for supporting the event.
Awoyale commended both leaders for their consistent commitment to community upliftment and youth development.
He said the empowerment initiative reflects their compassion and genuine concern for the welfare of the less privileged.
Senator Sadiq Umar who was represented by Mr. Sulaiman Abubakar noted that Senator Umar’s service goes beyond Kwara North, as he continues to champion unity, progress, and the overall development of the entire state.
The Senator said Islam and Christianity promote kindness and helping others, stressing that such acts strengthen peace and harmony in society.
The Guest Speaker, Evangelist Shola Mike Agboola described the church as the “light in a dark world,” warning that moral decay is gradually becoming accepted as normal.

“The church must continue to shine as light in the midst of darkness. It’s not just a gathering but a body of the redeemed. The light we carry is Christ’s light and when we choose silence in the face of evil, it becomes a sin.”
Also speaking, Professor Feyi Adepoju encouraged participants to live purposefully without losing sight of their identity or faith.
Her words: “Discover your purpose and stay connected to it. Never let others’ opinions define you. Grow with humility, and allow your purpose to evolve as you do.”

Earlier, Kwara CAN Secretary, Barrister Adesina encouraged Christian Youths to get their voter’s card in order to have strong voice during elections.
According to him, You all need to get your voter’s card. Don’t let anybody deceive you that vote will not count. The political atmosphere is changing, we need to get involved.
The programme concluded with prayers led by Rev. Dr. James Olawuyi, who prayed for peace, unity, and an end to insecurity in Kwara State. He expressed confidence that the state known as the “State of Harmony” will continue to enjoy lasting prosperity.
