SSANU VOWS TO CONTINUE STRIKE IN LAUTECH
Academic activities remained grounded at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso as Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, (SSANU) LAUTECH chapter vowed not end their industrial action until their agitations are met.
The institution has been on strike for the last two weeks. SSANU members had down tools on the campus to protest against the alleged non payment of subvention to the campus by the government of the two owner states of Oyo and Osun in the last twenty one months, altogether Comrade Abimbola Aleshinloye who is the SSANU Chairman in LAUTECH said “Oyo state has not paid subvention to LAUTECH in the last eight months while Osun state has not paid subvention in the last 15 months, which if put together is amounting to twenty one months”.
The SSANU boss said if not because of the ingenuity of the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adeniyi Gbadegesin, activities on the campus would have been grounded long ago.
The protest took another dimension in the last week of July when SSANU members converged on the campus in front of LAUTECH Senate Chamber for inter religious prayer to seek God’s intervention in their matter.
Comrade Aleshinloye said if their request was not acceded, the labour union can remain on strike for one year. He challenged the governing board of LAUTECH to justify their appointment by intervening in the financial mess facing LAUTECH. He equally appealed to well meaning Nigerians to in the interest of students wade in to the impasse.
